Aaron Yoshino Solo Show

Aaron Yoshino is one of the most prolific and eclectic photographers you’ll find in Hawai‘i. In addition to working for nearly every major media outlet in the state, including the Honolulu Star-Advertiser, Honolulu Weekly, innov8, Contrast Magazine and FLUX Hawaii, Aaron also holds down a 9-to-5 as a computer administrator for the state. If that isn’t passion, I don’t know what is…

For his solo exhibition at Hotel Renew, Aaron captures our city on large-format prints. Stunningly crisp and portrayed in vivid detail, these pictures portray Honolulu – too oft caricatured as some silly, sunny, idyllic paradise – as locals see it: a metropolitan city where concrete creeps up the base of our iconic natural landscapes, a city too crowded, a city prone to thundering skies and gloomy days. Nonetheless, as anyone who’s grown up here will tell you, it’s a city that can take your breath away.

He actually works for a non-profit, not the state, but it doesn’t really matter in this story, does it? We love Aaron’s work!
