Here it is guys, the cover for ISSUE II: WATER. A sneak peek leak.

Last week we were fortunate enough to be invited by The Hyatt Regency Waikiki to a fabulous wine tasting dinner. The wine was rich, bold and beautiful and came courtesy of Dennis Cakebread in Napa Valley. The tasting menu was prepared by The Colony Restaurant and was sooooo delish! I didn’t even know this restaurant existed, but I would sure go back for the yummiest scallops I’ve ever had!

By the time we got there, these ahi cones were being passed around. I grabbed one real quick, cuz I was hongrey! The 2008 Cakebread Sellers Sauvignon Blanc was refreshing after a long day at work.

We took our seats, and at this point I realized it was gonna be a loooong night. I wasn’t sure if I’d make it to the end.

So this was the yummy scallop. It was a stewed in Vermouth, served with endive and shiitake, and served with a buttery crepe shell. I was dying! So creamy. I don’t normally care for Chardonnay, but the Cakebread Cellers Reserve Chardonnay, actually paired quite nicely.

The second course was a lobster and arugula salad with a caviar and white truffle vinaigrette. Oh man, was the truffle flavor good. Served with Cakebread’s Pinot Noir. At this point, Dennis Cakebread himself came to our table to talk with us. I’m sure he was like, “What are these kids doing at my event?!”

After the salad we had a apple intermezzo to clear the palate. That was cool and refreshing. Now the main course, an espresso-rubbed filet with a huge Buerre Monte-poached shrimp sitting nicely on top. They brought out a deep Cabernet Sauvignon with this. At this point the table next to us was getting pretty rowdy. I swear they cheers’ed like eight times. Although by this point, I was getting a little tipsy too…

Okay, I barely remember eating this dessert (hence the awful photo) and it kind of looks like Spam, but from what I hear it was delicious! (Croquant chocolate and hazelnut bars, served with 2006 Cakebread Zinfandel).

Last night I got a chance to preview The Contemporary Museum’s new exhibit of four new female artists. And believe me when I say, these women are strong independent women, who really know their craft. Needless to say, the new exhibit is amazing. Amazing works by Elizabeth Berdann, Judy Fox, Fay Ku and Allison Schulnik.

FLUX Hawaii brought together some of the city’s most beautiful and influential people for a Sneak Peek of our premiere issue, “Transition.” The party took place at chic new restaurant/lounge, Apartment3, and continued long into the night. Stay tuned for more to see what all the FLUX is about.

Enterprise First Fridays teamed up with FLUX Hawaii magazine in September 2009 to help decide the FACE of FLUX for our premiere issue in 2010. We commissioned five local artists to answer the question, “Where is Hawaii transitioning to? Their responses came graphically using a variety of different mediums, including paint, digital, photography and even toilet paper. Then we asked you, the public to VOTE for your favorite cover art by: Eukarezt, Sonny Ganaden, Haj Gollestani, Landon Osamu, Yumi Vong. Featuring an acoustic showcase with Yoza, Sebastian Hughes, and Gary Liu Jr and The Drowning Dreamers.
