Station Bar and Lounge: Got talent?

Station Bar and Lounge welcomes new and old talent to the stage on Mondays and Thursdays.

Station supports the local music scene via live performances from top artists in Hawaii. With open mic and stand up comedy nights, Station Bar and Lounge is the newest public outlet for local artists.

Smack in the middle of Waikiki and Chinatown, Station Bar and Lounge is the newest addition to Honolulu nightlife. The bar is dark, urban, and intimate. The walls are covered in bold graffiti, and scream “underground.”

Station offers game nights, movie nights, music shows, and special drink offers on industry nights. Don’t worry about being terribly cute here. Station invites patrons in with a come-as-you-are attitude.

“I wanted to make a place for everyone, almost like a Cheers-type place,” says Blane Nishizawa, owner and operator.

For weekly events, check out Station Bar and Lounge on Facebook.

Station Bar and Lounge is located at 1726 Kapiolani Blvd (Across from the Convention Center). Hours of Operation: Monday-Sunday 6pm-2am

Painted Highways New EP

One of my last interactions with Painted Highways was when they played The Venue last September, the stage awash in blue lights and filled with painted household items like lamps, vacuum cleaners, desks, chairs, blue (which they subsequently dumped into the back of my truck after I proclaimed to like them so much).

After that, life took over and the guys kind of went underground. So I’m thrilled to hear they just release a new EP available for $0.00 HERE! This is one band you definitely want to support.

IT’S THE PROFESSOR AND HE’S MAD CRAZY

Dub icon in this mad age of technology warfare (musically speaking) and Dubstep craze. His credentials need no introduction. The Mad Professor has pioneered reggae in its modern dub interpretations with his work in the digital. A passion in electronics engineering led him to tinker with the knobs that confound the majority and the rest is history.

The Mad Professor is no stranger to Hawai‘i. “It’s my two-hundred-something-billionth time. I feel that the people appreciate the type of music we play. Lover’s Rock for example. You know, I’ve traveled the world and played for so many audiences, but some people don’t have a taste for reggae. Luckily for me, we never specialize in one type of music. Hawai‘i is not like other places.”

If you find music rubble too easily clouding your stereo, let the Mad Professor flip the switch and clear the air with infectious sounds best heard live. Do your ears some good and make yourself present for a few lessons.

ROCKY RIVERA

On October 8, 2011, Rocky makes her return to the islands featuring her newly released mixtape Pop Killer, backed by DJ Roza. With so much range and plenty of sass swagger, Pop Killer will take you to Frisco and back before you can figure out a “Pop Killer” in hypothetical.  At first listen, Rocky is undoubtedly intimidating.  At second listen, she remains relentless, which moves me to name this as that good ol’ hip hop.  Over 13 tracks, Rocky raps militant bars in tune with the infectious boom baps only that West Coast flavor can deliver and in the style she knows best: her own.

Rocky is no stranger to the islands and plans to make her rounds to all the local shops in thanks for their longtime unyielding support. Hawai’i: heads up. Rocky is bringing that Frisco sound that’ll make you move.  Ladies, this one’s for you.  Gentleman, come correct.  The self-proven Gangster of Love is in town.  Show some love back like we know how.
