What Lies Beneath Your Makeup

What do we consider easy when it comes to makeup? It can mean a “no make-up” day or it can mean you have makeup but that it looks “natural.”

Foundation sometimes has a bad reputation for feeling too heavy or looking too “done-up.” Where do you turn to then? Cosmetic brands are always creating the next best thing. We are constantly on the lookout for those products, but right now, the next best thing that we can turn to are tinted moisturizers or beauty balms, also known as BB creams.

Tinted moisturizers have been around for a long time, and they were created for those who don’t want that feeling of heavy foundation. The texture is smooth, it feels light, and the application is sheer. For the days that you want a natural look and feel, I would recommend going for a tinted moisturizer as an alternative to your foundation. Most, if not all, cosmetic brands have their own version of this product.

Depending on your skin type, look for a product that fits your skin the best. My favorite product for a natural look is Bobbi Brown’s Tinted Moisturizer Oil Free. It’s a gel-based consistency, provides sheer coverage, and has an SPF of 15! This is enough for me during the day when I want something easy and quick to apply but will still gives me enough coverage to even out my skin tone. This will give you more of that natural look your seeking.

If you are a no fuss, no makeup kind of person, BB creams are here for you! It’s can act as your primer to your foundation or a product you can wear alone.

On one of our makeup shopping days, we stumbled upon two brands that have been quite popular in their own respective ways. First, is Too Faced’s Beauty Tinted Balms. Selecting the perfect match is simple because it only comes in 4 shades. It is available in light, light to medium, medium and deep. It goes smoothly on bare skin and has light diffusing pigments that creates a beautiful, subtle glow. Love the glow! Great for all skin types with an added SPF of 20. Another bonus is this product’s anti-aging benefits. Who wouldn’t want that in their BB cream? You can never be too young or mature for anti-aging. I say, the earlier you start, the better.

The second product I tried is Smashbox’s Camera Ready BB Cream. This product can be used as a primer or by itself. It has an SPF of 35, hydrates skin and helps control oil. I tried it as my all-in-one, and the coverage on this is amazing. I tend to be drier on the surface but produce a lot of oil as the day goes on. The consistency of Smashbox’s BB cream was perfect and lasted all day. I didn’t need to touch-up with powder or blot oil as much as I normally need to throughout the day. In this humidity, we need all the help we can get!

When searching for your perfect match or your perfect BB cream, tinted moisturizer or foundation, get back to the basics and ask for samples. Always get help from a beauty consultant, have them apply it for you, then wear it for a bit before making the decision to purchase.

Don’t let makeup be a job, enjoy it and experiment!
