Subaru Hawai‘i believes in being a positive force in the community, not just with charitable donations but with actions that set an example for others to follow. In this five-part series, musician and Subaru Hawai‘i ambassador Paula Fuga is joined by one of her 13 best friends as she ventures out into the community to meet with passionate changemakers relevant to each of the Subaru Love Promises, areas in which the brand is committed to making a difference: animals, the environment, education, public health, and helping those in need. Get to know Paula, her values, and her path to healing and self-love as she raises awareness about some of the causes closest to her heart, accompanied by the friends who have loved and uplifted her along the way.

Subaru Hawai‘i is committed to keeping all animals safe and healthy, whether they live in our homes or in the wild. In this episode of Love in Action, join Paula—a self-proclaimed dog person despite developing a pet allergy early in life—as she pays a visit to the dynamic duo behind The Public Pet, an urban pet supply store that’s been a mainstay of the Kaimukī community since opening its doors in 2015.

Loyal to the Hawai‘i community that welcomed them with open arms, owners Matthew Guevara and Jordan Lee are committed to stocking the shop with pet food, treats, artwork, toys, and accessories from mostly Hawai‘i brands and local artists. This dedication to supporting local also inspired Matty and Jordan to launch Keep it Kaimukī, a community-driven initiative to promote the neighborhood’s shopkeepers and small businesses.

Along for the ride is Paula’s best friend Makamae Williams, a Kaimukī resident, pet dad, and small business owner who teamed up with his husband, Keoni Williams, to open The Kaimukī Lei Stand, a mobile lei shop specializing in handcrafted lei and vintage aloha apparel. In this episode, join Paula as she invites the group to discuss self-love, what Pride means to them, and the importance of being true to who you are and accepting others for who they are, too.
